avantage Presents at the 2010 Practitioners Forum on Solvency II Implementation
avantage were invited by Infoline to present at the '2010 Practitioners Forum on Solvency II Implementation' and to lead the post conference workshop 'Solvency II & ORSA - Hands on guidance and industry insights'
Aside from the immediate technical challenges posed by Solvency II, the introduction of the new capital requirements Directive raises some serious strategic questions for European insurers.
Iain Wright Head of avantage's Insurance Practice addressed the Forum highlighting some of the wider business implications the Directive may have and identified areas insurers should be considering in their planning.

In addition Iain led a one day workshop attended by a wide range of insurers from large global insurance groups to small European monoline insurers. Attendees were those responsible for implementing Solvency II and were a mix of senior management and risk, finance and actuarial professionals.
The highly interactive workshop combined formal presentations with structured practical exercises and small group discussions, led by several partners and consultants from avantage. Subjects covered included:
- The importance of placing Solvency II within the context of organisational strategy;
- The relationship between ERM and Solvency II;
- Practical issues in setting and measuring risk appetite;
- Data challenges;
- Programme Management;
- Senior management engagement;
- ORSA;
- Use test;
- Pillar 3 data and reporting.
A significant part of the day was spent helping participants start to develop their ORSA documents, starting from a summary of the regulations and guidance as they are know currently and moving through to the practical development of an ORSA framework.
