avantage Business Briefing at the BBA, “RRPs: Challenges and Handy Tips”
On Thursday 26th January 2012 avantage hosted a Business Breakfast on the subject of the FSA's approach to Recovery & Resolution Planning (RRP) - (aka "Living Wills"). An eclectic selection of speakers had been organised in order to provide the attendees with a wide range of perspectives on the topic under discussion.
The overall purpose of the breakfast session was to cover the practical issues and challenges being faced by the financial services industry in implementing such plans, as well as providing insights into dealing with a serious business recovery situation.
Andrew Nord, Partner, avantage Reply Ltd, welcomed the attendees to the session, and then handed over to Andrew Shiels, Managing Consultant and Head of the Edinburgh Office, who led an introductory session on the FSA's requirements around RRP as well as some key industry observations.
The next session was presented by Simon Hills, Executive Director, British Bankers Association, with Simon providing an overview of the key lessons and challenges that had been drawn from the UK pilots held around RRPs.
Charles Thompson, Former Chief Executive, Equitable Life (2001-2009) then led a session dealing with a serious business recovery situation, and provided the attendees with fascinating insights into the work he had undertaken during a very turbulent period in Equitable Life's history.
Chris Skinner, Chairman, Financial Services Club, then provided his independent views and observations around RRP and also informed the attendees about the networking opportunities offered by the Financial Services Club.
Following a lively question and answer session, Andrew Nord brought the session to a close.
