At its meeting held on 8-9 December 2009, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision approved for consultation a package of proposals to strengthen global capital and liquidity regulations with the goal of promoting a more resilient banking sector. Along with the measures taken by the Committee in July 2009 to strengthen the Basel II Framework, these proposals are part of the Committee's comprehensive response to address the lessons of the crisis related to the regulation, supervision and risk management of global banks. These proposals together with CRD2 and CRD3 (covered by CP09/29 in the UK) will significantly impact the way banks operate.
The briefing session will provide an opportunity for an update on regulatory developments at the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and in Europe as well as the proposed implementation of these changes in the UK. The presentations will be followed by a Question and Answer session.
