What is the outlook for the Euro? What are the implications for those engaged in Professional Risk Management at European Financial Institutions?
Abstract
The global financial crisis, which began in August 2007 and reached its peak in the aftermath of the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in September 2008, is now in a new phase, as market concerns about the solvency of the Banking sector translate into concerns about the solvency of peripheral Eurozone countries. In 2010, we saw EU/IMF interventions in Greece and Ireland; other countries remain vulnerable to a loss of market confidence.
In this meeting, we will examine the current situation in the Eurozone from two perspectives:
- We will consider what this means from a 'practical' risk management perspective: what are the implications for market volatility and liquidity?
- What tail risks exist in the Eurozone, what should risk managers be including in their stress testing programmes?
Guest Speakers
Marijke Zewuster Senior Economist and Head of Emerging Markets at the ABN Amro Economics Bureau.
Casper G. de Vries Programme Director for the Risk Management programme at the Duisenberg school of Finance, a Professor of Economics at Erasmus University and a fellow and board member of the Tinbergen Institute and EMU Monitor group.
Attendance is free of charge to all members of PRMIA.
