There are a number of practical challenges that are likely to be encountered when considering operational risk appetite development. These include balancing the various demands of the stakeholders involved; assessing the potential approaches to articulating operational risk appetite and the ways in which senior management and Board members can derive practical benefits from it. It has been our experience that whilst the theory is reasonably straight forward the practical application and translation of this to a series of workable limits and mitigation can be somewhat more troublesome.
This event is an opportunity to share experience around what has worked (and what has not) in your organisation. With this in mind, the conversation will be facilitated by brief presentations by practitioners from two financial institutions and avantage, and then an open exchange from those participating.
These issues are addressed in a recently published avantage practice note (including case study) by Andrew Shiels, Managing Consultant and Head of the avantage Edinburgh Office entitled ‘Developing an Operational Risk Appetite: Turning a “black art” into practical reality’ which will be discussed in the avantage presentation. The practice note is available on our website via this link.
The numbers to this event will be kept small in line with the objective of having an open exchange of ideas.
We look forward to welcoming you and or your colleagues to this event.
